Penn State is prohibited by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) from releasing any student information without the student's prior consent.
Students can grant access to their student account to parents, guardians, or family members in LionPATH to enable them to view and pay your student account balance, enroll in the Installment Payment Plan, and access IRS Form 1098-T.
Please note: Authorized User access to the student account is separate and in ADDITION to the delegated access the student may have ALREADY granted via LionPATH for academic information.
There are two options to add an Authorized User to a student account.
Authorized User Requests Access to Student Account
Authorized Users may initiate the process themselves by following these steps:
- Visit Penn State’s online bill payment Authorized User login page.
- Choose “Create New Account” or the option for Authorized User/Parent Login (not current or former student).
- Enter your name, email, and create a password to request access.
- Complete the verification email sent to that address.
- Provide the student’s Penn State ID and date of birth when prompted.
- The student will receive an email at their @psu.edu address asking them to approve or deny access.
- Once approved, the authorized user will receive an email confirming they have been established as an authorized user and can now log in to view the account. If the student does not approve, the account remains in pending status.

Student Grants Access to the Student Account
Please note, Authorized User access should not be granted to employers, organizations, sponsors, or other third-party organizations.
Students grant Authorized User Access to their student account by following these steps:
- Log in to your Student Home Base in LionPATH
- Click on "My Finances" on top of the page
- Select "Manage My Account/Make A Payment" to get to your billing and payment portal
- On the Quick Links, select Authorized Payers, and click “Set Up Now” to add the Authorized User.
- The Authorized User will receive an email with instructions to complete registration and create a password; please note that this link expires within 24 hours.

Authorized User Log In
If you are an Authorized User on the student account, follow these steps:
- Login under Authorized User public.lionpath.psu.edu.
- Once logged in on the Student Account, select "Make a Payment".
